Walker Instructions
Location
You will be staying at Pukeora Estate, near Waipukurau. Their telephone number is 06 858 9339. The Estate is located just off SH2 approximately 3 hours drive North from Wellington and 1 hour drive South from Napier. For those not familiar with the area, we attach a map, and will signpost from SH 2. If you are coming by bus, let us know so that we can meet you with transport to Pukeora.
Registration
- Upon arrival at Pukeora on Friday, you will need to register at the Main Entrance, before 9pm.
- We will issue name tags and walking notes (plus a plan of the complex - we don't want to lose you) and you will be shown to your rooms.
- Those camping at Pukeora Estate or staying elsewhere should also register at this time.
- If you cannot get to Pukeora before 9pm, please let us know and we will leave your room number and walking notes for you
- The exception will be for those walkers taking part on the Sunday or Monday only, you will be required to register by 8am on the morning of the walk.
We do ask everyone to register as soon as you arrive so that we can be sure that you have everything necessary for a successful few days. For those of you who plan to arrive earlier in the day, you may like to explore Waipukurau or dine in town. There will be information available for you at the registration desk
What to Bring
Bedding
If you have a mattress on the floor - you will require a sheet , pillow pillowcase, sleeping bag. For those of you sleeping in beds. - you will require extra pillows if required, sleeping bags.
Eating utensils
Dinner plate / Bread & butter plate/ Pudding bowl / Cup / Knife, Fork & Spoon, Tea towel. Drink Bottle.
Clothing essentials
Indoor Footwear (all walking shoes are to be left in boot room after each day's walk). Towelling robe or dressing gown. Towels.
Food
On Friday evening we will have a list of eating places available in Waipukurau. The bar at Pukeora will be open and pizza orders will be taken from those walkers wanting a light meal at Pukeora Estate.
- Breakfast will be served each morning from 6:30 to 7.30 am.
- Check the white board each evening for breakfast briefing times
- Lunches are supplied on the walks, bring some money, as you may wish to buy a pick- me- up while waiting for the bus at the end of day.
- Dinner on Saturday and Sunday nights will be served by the Rotary Roasters from 6:30pm.
Monday' walk concludes with a BBQ, before leaving for home.
The Walks
- A briefing is held each day at 8.00am in the dining room. (Check the white board each evening for briefing time)
- There is no need to carry heavy packs on the walks. You will need a day pack, water bottle (we suggest 1 -2 litre per person), sturdy footwear, warm clothing, waterproof jacket, sun protection items and possibly a walking stick, camera, scroggin, muesli bars, etc.
- There will be plenty of assistance on the walks if it is required.
- At the end of each day, basic first aid (for bumps, bruises and blisters) will be available.
- Masseuses will be on hand to revitalise those tired and weary legs. (there will be a small charge)
- You may choose to swim in the indoor pool, equally as therapeutic.
- Or sitting at the bar with a drink in hand is often just what is needed.
- After dinner we will entertain those of you who are able to stay awake.
