Accommodation
Accommodation is provided at Pukeora Estate with magnificant views, over looking the Tuki Tuki River near Waipukurau. Pukeora translated from Maori means "Hill of Health."
History:
In 1918 the hill site with its abundant fresh air and altitude of 250m was chosen to build a sanatorium to care for soldiers returning from World War One with respiratory illnesses. The complex was redeveloped as a home for the disabled and physically handicapped from 1958. A new chapter began when Pukeora sold to private owners, Max and Kate in April 2000 Pukeora is now being developed as a vineyard, winery and conventions venue, along with accommodation facilities (B&B and backpacker). The winery has been established in the bathroom basement of the original sanatorium buildings.
